This program will be conducted in Chinese and English with simultaneous translation for both languages.
此次专家对话将聚焦在胡适作为庚子赔款学者在美国康奈尔大学（1910至1914年）和哥伦比亚大学（1914-17）的经历、他的“健全的个人主义”的理念和对中国“充分世界化”的强烈愿望，以及胡适在上世纪20年代倡导的白话文运动。两位专家将揭示胡适对现代中国的重大贡献。
The discussion will highlight Hu Shi’s experiences in the US as a Boxer Indemnity exchange scholar at Cornell University (1910-1914) and Columbia University (1914-17), his ideologies of “sound individualism” and aspirations for China to be “fully globalized”; and Hu Shi’s pivotal campaign in the 1920s for language reform of vernacular Chinese as a national language. The two speakers will reveal Hu Shi's great contribution to modern China.
SPEAKERS/专家简介：
David Moser 莫大伟
David Moser is the Associate Dean of the Yenching Academy at Peking University. He holds a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Chinese Studies from the University of Michigan, with a major in Chinese Linguistics and Philosophy. He’s been based in Beijing for over 25 years, active in academic and media circles.
Dr. Moser was a visiting scholar at Peking University in 1987-89, and later a visiting professor at the Beijing Foreign Studies University for 5 years, where he taught courses in Translation Theory and Psycholinguistics.
Dr. Moser is author of the book A Billion Voices: China's Search for a Common Language. He co-hosts Sinica Podcast, an influential China current affairs podcast. Dr. Moser also appears often on BBC radio and CCTV programs.
莫大伟先生是北京大学燕京学堂的副院长。他拥有密西根大学中国研究学的硕士与博士学位，其专业为中国语言学与中国哲学。他已经在北京生活了二十五年有余，一直活跃于中国学术与传媒界。
莫博士于1987年至1989年在北京大学做访问学者，随后在北京外国语大学做了五年客座教授。在那里，他教授翻译理论与心理语言学的课程。
莫博士是《十亿人的声音：一场定义现代汉语的斗争》一书的作者，也是很有影响力的讨论中国实事问题的播客Sinica播客的联合主持人。他还经常出现在BBC广播和CCTV新闻类节目中。
Zhang Yaojie 张耀杰
张耀杰先生是中国艺术研究院研究员，主要从事戏剧学研究和民国法政历史研究。主要著作有：《曹禺：戏里戏外》、《中国宪政运动史》、《民国红粉》、《北大教授与新青年》、《民初命案》、《喋血枭雄：改变历史的民国大案》等。
张先生的三卷册新著《胡适罪错 -- 政学两界人和事》即将出版。这是一部全面、真实、立体、生动的学术评传。
张先生还曾参与《小关一家人》、《山河作证》、《农电之光》等数十部长短电视片的编创工作。
Zhang Yaojie is Historical & Drama Research fellow at Chinese Academy of Arts. His research focuses on drama studies and the history of law and politics during the Republican period of China. His main works include: "Cao Yu: Drama Life", "Chinese Constitutionalism Movement History" “Gentlewomen of the Republic of China ", "Professors of Peking University and New Youth", “Murders In the Early Republic of China", “ The Major Cases that Changed the History of the Republic of China”, etc.
Mr. Zhang 's three-volume new book "About Hu Shi – The People and Stories in the Political and Academic Circles " is to be published soon. This is a comprehensive academic biography full of vivid historical materials.
Mr. Zhang also participated in the creation of dozens of long and short TV series, such as "Xiao Guan Family", " Mountains and Rivers Can Testify ", "The Light of Agricultural Electric Power", etc.
