The successful candidate will lead the Energy and Environment policy team to identify opportunities and take forward policy collaboration in support of East China’s shift to a low carbon and more sustainable development path. You will also drive collaboration between the policy team and other UK Government teams to ensure the UK capitalises on the opportunities presented from cooperation with China, including adding value to the work of the Department for International Trade and UK Science and Innovation Network in China.

• Lead the team to conduct reporting and analysis of the policy landscape in East China.
  

• Oversee delivery of UK-China policy collaboration utilising the full range of diplomatic tools.
  

• Drive collaboration across UK Government departments on Energy and Environment in East China.

• Work with cross-government colleagues and external stakeholders to ensure projects funded by the Energy and Low Carbon Economy Multiyear Prosperity Fund Programme.

• Build and maintain a network of contacts covering government, industry and academia.
  

• Line manage one member of staff to support their development and ensure effective team performance.

• Represent the UK including speaking at conferences and events to ensure that the UK Government, business and academia continue to be seen as a key partner in China’s development.

• Plan and deliver visit programmes for official UK Government visitors and VIPs to East China, ensuring these visits support delivery of UK initiatives.

• Contribute to priority activities in the wider Energy and Environment teams across China as required.

Reporting to the Head of Consumer & Retail, the candidate will through targeted lead generation, business development and relationship management deliver trade and investment objectives in line with the sector vision. He/ She will manage a mixed portfolio of trade and inward investment projects, as well as market access and trade policy, from inception to completion, in conjunction with other team members. Qualify and develop new projects. Develop client relationships and engage private and public sector stakeholders in the process and ensure clients’ needs are effectively met. Work closely with DIT HQ and other partners to develop a sustainable pipeline of trade and inward investment project.
