我们常常用"What a pity!"表达“遗憾、可惜”,今天我们学习它的另一用法吧~


 What a pity!/It's a pity that...

对他人遭受不幸时表达怜悯、同情,带有一丝遗憾和可惜


What a pity! You should fail the exam for the third time! 

真可怜,三次考试都没及格!


It's a pity that he is in rags and gets wet through in the rain. 

他太可怜了,衣衫褴褛,全身还被雨淋,湿透了。


poor thing

可怜的家伙;poor后面可接任何人称代词:poor you/me/her...


Poor thing! Cheer up! You are cute now. 

太可怜了.振作点儿!你现在很好看啊。


Poor you! I don't think I can take it.

真可怜!要是我肯定接受不了。



 pathetic!

有时候带有鄙夷的意味,对他人不敬,慎用


You're so pathetic, you actually think he's gonna come back to you.

 你太可怜了,你真以为他会回来找你。


 miserable 

形容对一个人处于悲惨、不幸的处境产生怜悯


You miserable worm!

你这个可怜虫!


How can you live on such a miserable wage?

你怎么靠这少得可怜的工资活下去?


A person's poor situation can always attribute to his own fault.

可恨之人必有可怜之处 。
