SCCSH Invites Zheng Bingjie to Offer Training on English Teaching
On May 31st, 2016, Sino-Canada Concord School of Hefei High Tech Zone invited Zheng Bingjie, director of the Teaching and Research Office of Bureau of Education in Nanshan District, Shenzhen city, to offer training and guidance on English teaching. The training aims at further improving the teaching efficiency and students’ ability to use English.
Starting with “Production Possibility”, Zheng introduced the topic— To Improve the Executive Capability of English Course. He noted that production should receive the most attention though the importance of practice should never be belittled.
First, Zheng explained the course goals with proper examples, which involve goals of knowledge and capability, language skills, learning strategies, cultural awareness and emotional attitudes.
Then, he also introduced advanced teaching wisdoms, including notions of communicative capacity which integrates various capacities, individualized teaching and learner autonomy as well as the necessary goal of achieving communicative purpose in using language. He encouraged English teachers in our school to conduct teaching under the guidance of those wisdoms.
Meanwhile, Zheng also reminded English teachers present that the current English examination pays increasing attention to the communicative capacity, involving language knowledge, discourse and pragmatic use. In other words, efforts should be made to lay language teaching or learning in concrete contexts and situations.
Later, Zheng stressed the significance of learning plan when preparing for class, taking the teaching of passive voice as an example. He pointed out the learning plan should start from knowledge to operational skills of language structure and then to the integrated capacity of language use. In term of Senior High School Entrance Examination, Zheng called for efforts from English teachers to analyze those examinations in past three years, ensuring an all-round but focused review.
Then Zheng listed some key concepts concerning language learning and explained in detail for better understanding. In the end, He illustrated the teaching behavior structure, which consists of close attention to learning behavior, learning process structure, language learning structure, task structure and teaching process structure. He encouraged the teachers to facilitate the students’ learning of knowledge in context and practice in situations in order to realize language production.
By the end of the training, Zheng also raised a dozen questions on improving English learning efficiency. He encouraged the English teachers present to think about them and share opinions next time. During the interaction session, Zheng also answered the questions from the other teachers patiently.
Within only two hours, Zheng presented to all a fantastic training lecture featured by specific targets and due order. English teachers present all said that they benefited a lot from the training, involving deeper understanding of English teaching. They also expect to improve the course executive capability under the guidance of the training in future teaching.
