A MAIN Beach mansion has been sold at auction for $6.5 million during the weekend, breaking the record highest price for the suburb which was set in 2012.

The new Hamptons-style home at 3535 Main Beach Pde is among a small selection of waterfront properties in the in-demand area.

Professionals Vertullo Real Estate principal David Vertullo said it was a special buy.

“It’s a good sale because the price, compared to what’s been happening on Hedges Avenue, is a really good result,” Mr Vertullo said.

“I think Main Beach is almost a million dollars in front of the last comparable sale on Hedges on a 405m squared block — so from that point of view it’s a significant sale and a good sign.

“The thing about that property is there’s only a handful of beachfront homes at Main Beach so it’s a unique buy.”

With bidding opening at $5 million, the four level home drew interest from nine bidders from a crowd of about 150 people.

Information about the lucky buyers and their intentions with the property remains confidential, but Mr Vertullo said they already owned another property in the Main Beach area.
