Some people think computers and the internet are more important for child's education than going to schools. However, others believe schools and teachers are essential for children to learn effectively. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

In the past, many accepted the importance of traditional teaching methods, where teachers instruct and guide students in their learning. However, with the advancement of technology, some have come to believe that computers and the internet play a more crucial role in education nowadays. Personally, I believe modern technology and traditional education are equally essential in a well-rounded education.

On one hand, the ability to use technology has become a fundamental part of everyday life. People used to spend large amounts of time going into a bank to transfer money, submitting insurance claim forms in person, or even shopping for clothes. Nowadays, those tasks canbe done online, and incorporating computersinto a child’s education can help them to be more technically savvy from a young age, like my niece, who was fully functional with an iPad at the age of 5.

Moreover, the internet contains much more information than any single teacher could possess. Many teachers can have a specialty in certain subjects, which allows them to be excellent teachers for those subjects. However, even the most knowledgeable history teacher will not know every date, fact and aspect of a topic, and the internet can be a handy tool used to unlock knowledge. Personally, I can recall using the internet to watch YouTube videos in order to supplement my economics subjects during college.

On the other hand, there are social skills learned through schools that simply cannot be learned on the internet. Teachers act as an authority figure during class, while other classmates can act as friends or even rivals in class. Children learn many important concepts when socialising in school, and internet chatrooms are no substitute. Referring to my nephew as an example, his social skills and listening have improved greatly since he started attending school.

To further the importance of traditional teaching, computers may not be capable of identifying specific learning difficulties. Personally, I found at a young age, with the guidance of a teacher,that I learn better through written word, and that my audible learning skills were not as powerful. Other types of issues could include dyslexia or even simpler issues like the specific steps in an equation. Trained educators can often use a human eye to identify the best approach for each individual student, something that would be otherwise lost without traditional teaching methods.
