Wine Australia supports a competitive wine sector by investing in R&D, developing domestic and international markets and actively protecting the reputation and quality of Australian wines. Wine Australia is an Australian Government statutory body, which is funded by grapegrowers and winemakers through levies, with some additional support from the Australian Government.


We are based in Adelaide, South Australia, and have offices in Sydney, London, San Francisco, Vancouver and Shanghai.

Education Manager

Wine Australia China in Shanghai


We are looking for an Education Manager, based in Shanghai, to develop and execute the global education strategy for Wine Australia in China. The Education Manager will entail facilitating and driving educational and related commercial training programs across China to a wide range of audiences.


The successful applicant will be highly motivated, passionate, flexible and prepared to work in a performance-driven culture. They must be able to work with minimal supervision and be able to demonstrate a track record of achieving measurable results in wine education and wine-related event management. The successful candidate will report to Wine Australia’s Head of Market – China.

POSITION SUMMARY


Wine Australia invests heavily in communication and disseminating knowledge about the quality and diversity of wines from Australia. Supporting the development and execution of the Global Education Strategy for Wine Australia across China is the key aspect of the role. This will entail facilitating and driving educational and related commercial training programs across China to a wide range of audiences including media, key opinion leaders, trade customers and consumers.


This role will be directly responsible for two distinct aspects:


- Deepening the penetration of Australian Wine Education within a wide cross-section of retailers and consumer facing institutions.


- Wine Australia maintains a database of professional educators and this role requires that the list of “experts” be developed to their full potential for the benefit of all wines from Australia, includes ensuring that the educator community is well informed and maintains high standards of professionalism and integrity. The database should be pro-actively managed whilst ensuring that the pool is highly respected and recognised as experts.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Deepening the penetration of Australian Education content into targeted retailers and other consumer interfacing institutions. 


Developing and executing the education strategy for Wine Australia in China.


  • Liaising with HQ on all aspects of the Wine Australia Global Education programs to be used across China, including providing advice and suggestions that enhance the Global function.

  • Developing and managing the ongoing relationships with strategic partners in leveraging our education assets – in particular the Professional Educator community, KOL’s, Media, Trade Customers, Distributors and Consumer Groups.

  • Continually assessing, enhancing and developing the professional educator pool and ensuring they are well informed and fully supported. Maintaining a strong but objective relationship with this pool is an absolute necessity. Therefore continuous review, assessment and adjustment (when required) of the data base, will be essential. 

  • Developing and implementing commercial (sales related) education programs in direct support of trade customers, such as Distributors, Retailers and On-Trade chain customers.

  • Applying and managing the overall execution of global education content at all exhibitions and other events and activities to maintain a high standard of communication, including finding new and unique opportunities to communicate the Australian wines story.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


Knowledge and Experience 


  • Qualified at WSET level 3 or above, other equivalent levels of knowledge and experience will be considered

  • Self-motivated, passionate about hospitality, outgoing and willing to travel 

  • Fluent in English, with Chinese (Mandarin) as a mother language

  • At least 3~5 years’ experience in wine communication and with wine events in China

  • Strong Project Management experience, especially related to “branded” events 

  • Solid understanding of the Chinese wine market

  • Recent commercially focused experience in an MNC or foreign government organisation context in China. Especially engaged in commercial contract/deal negotiations and similar experiences.

  • Desire to fully embrace and deeply understand the Australian wine industry

  • Practical and hands-on experience dealing with imported premium brands in China
